This image is part of a series done in the style of Timothy Hogan, a professional product photographer. My goal was to create photos that could be used to create ads for Neutrogena. In this image, I used a somewhat shallow depth of field to put the focus on the product. I wanted the image to be high key, and so I used a light-box plus a long exposure time to increase the amount of light in the image. I used card-stock to create a background that was similar to the product, with the white shells around to create some contrast.

In this image, I used a larger depth of field to put the product as well as the shells in focus. I wanted the image to be high key, and so I used a light-box plus a long exposure time to increase the amount of light in the image. I used a bed of shells to create a backdrop, and photographed the product from above. The shells create enough of a contrast that the product stands out, while also having similar enough colors that it ties in.

I used a background of yellow to play off the yellow at the bottom of the product, as well as to create a cheerful, energetic feeling of summer. I used shells to create a bed for the product to lean on, while also providing some contrast from the bright background.
